| Surridge Wiltshire League reject proposal |
|
Corsham Cricket Club's proposal, seconded by Swindon Cricket Club, that 3rd XI's be allowed promotion to Division One of the Surridge Wiltshire County Cricket League was overwhelmingly defeated at the League's AGM held at Devizes Cricket Club on Monday 28th November. However, the Club was successful in persuading the League to withdraw their proposal to automatically relegate teams from Division Two who play on a non-turf pitch as standard at the end of the 2013 season. Rule changes passed at the AGM included the following ... The team finishing bottom of each division will be relegated irrespective of withdrawals from the league which may have saved them from relegation in the past. A ban on the use of non-turf pitches in Division One. Each innings in matches between teams in Divisions One and Two will be a maximum of 2hrs 45 mins in duration. Teams failing to comply will be reported to the League. A minimum of seven players of a team must be ready to start play at the appointed start time unless contact has been made in which case a delayed start is permitted with certain restrictions. Methods by which teams with equal points are placed in league tables are now listed.
The League was keen to bar the use of 1st and 2nd XI players from playing for 3rd and 4th XIs over the same weekend when matches have been rearranged for a Sunday. However, as the proposed new rule was at odds with an existing rule, and the method by which such a proposal was to be policed was not clear, the proposal was withdrawn pending further investigation. On behalf of the 3rd XI, Peter Greenwood collected the Division Two winner's shield and medals, and the certificate marking Mark Unwin's 34 wicket haul during the season, being the best in the Division. |
