Girls+ team earn another win in pairs comp

Superb bowling saw Corsham Hawks under-11s defend a modest total and ease to victory over Biddestone A in the eight-a-wide Bath and District Youth Cricket League.

Sisters Katy and Imogen Cobb got the Hawks innings off to a solid start with some watchful batting. In the middle overs, aggressive running between the wickets from captain Evie Dixon and the ever-eager Lauren Strickland helped steal precious singles and turn ones into twos. A flurry of runs in the final four overs helped Hawks post 81-5 from their 16 overs (adjusted to 256 under pairs cricket rules).

But it was a sublime bowling and fielding performance that made the difference. Imogen took two wickets in her two overs with four other bowlers all taking scalps. In the field, Evie injected energy and led by example, taking a sharp catch and frequently threatening run-outs with her accurate throws from deep. Making her debut in hard-ball cricket, Molly Johnson was entrusted with bowling against Biddestone's most potent batting duo and saw her team over the line with a determined final over. Biddestone finished on 75-6 (adjusted to 245).

The win sees Hawks, Corsham's mostly-girls U11 side, move up to third in the table while our other U11 pairs side, the Falcons, sit undefeated at the top.
