Special Awards for Neville Dennett and Tony 'Thomas' Shardlow

The Club's Annual Awards were handed out at the Club's Presentation Dinner that was held in the Clubhouse during the evening of Saturday 14th October.

Awards presented by President Jim Carroll were as follows ...

The S. Wreford Hill Trophy for the Batsman scoring the most Runs in all senior matches during the season went to REMANO ESAU who scored a total of 1342 (which included 6 centuries and 2 half-centuries). Remano also featured in two double century partnerships (218 with Callum Sandell against Chipping Sodbury; 202 with Ashur Morrison in the T20 slaughter of Marshfield in the Wallop). He also featured in two century partnerships in WEPL Premier One, with Steve Bullen (113 v Lechlade) and Ashur Morrison (124 v Bedminster).

The Ramsbottom Trophy for the Bowler taking most Wickets in all senior matches during the season was won by TOM FOLEY who took a total of 41 wickets.

The Bill Miles Trophy for the Best Young Player was awarded to JACK HUMPHREYS who took 31 wickets and scored a total of 283 runs in all senior matches (including a memorable 5 for 22 in a Wiltshire Wallop game).

The Ken Kibbey Trophy for the Most Improved Player went to COREY HARBOUR-BURGESS who played most of his cricket in the 3rd and 4th XI this season. However, he also played in two 2nd XI games in which his contributions turned the game towards Corsham. He smashed 71 in 66 deliveries in a pre-season friendly against Keynsham and then 25 in even time towards the end of the season to help rescue the 2nds from 44-5 at Lacock.

Sunday XI Player of the Year
During the season the Sunday XI used 51 players, and so the Team Manager (Nigel Overton) wanted the new award to go to an individual who made himself available to play in all eight of the Sunday league matches (the only player to do so), batting in all of them with a top score of 46, as well as taking 6 wickets. The recipient of the award was TOM HYDE.

Fourth XI Player of the Year
This year’s winner was the leading run-scorer during the season, scoring 357 runs at an average of 23.8 including two half-centuries, and capped another very successful season considering he is still only 14 years old. The winner was FLYNN DAY.

(In addition to his trophy, Flynn was also presented with a mounted momento of his memorable season in which he scored over 1000 runs in all matches for the second season in succession).

Third XI Player of the Year
The trophy was awarded to JOSH STANLEY who scored 247 runs, and as Rob Shillaker says in his review of the season in the programme, was probably the unluckiest bowler throughout the season, deserving a lot more wickets than just the 8 he took.

Second XI Player of the Year
The 2nd XI had a good year winning promotion back to the WEPL by finishing 2nd to Bear Flat. In a side that gains promotion there were obviously a number of stand-out performances. However, the award was won by a returning son of Corsham, MATT UNWIN, who scored 583 league Runs, which included two centuries.

First XI Player of the Year
Despite finishing at the bottom of the league there were a few stand out performances with Remano Esau, Ashur Morrison and Vibhor Yadav all contributing with the bat and Vibhor and James Arney contributing with the ball. However, for his very economical and wicket taking performances, the award went to TOM FOLEY (27 wickets in 148 overs @21.19 economy 64.27 runs per 100 balls).

Club Person of the Year
This individual has been responsible for leading his charges to a league title, as well as producing some of the best tweets and ‘WhatsApp’ entries of the season. The Club Person of the Year was awarded to NIGEL OVERTON, manager of the Sunday XI.

ADDITIONAL AWARDS

Following completion of the Club performance awards, the Chairman asked the President to say a few words in honour of a past player, chairman, groundsman and outstanding Clubman who had served the Club for over 35 years, and who will shortly be leaving Wiltshire for a sea view in the Weymouth region. There was a standing ovation as WILLIAM ANTHONY (THOMAS) SHARDLOW left his seat to accept the presentation to him of a clock mounted on a miniature rotary mower.

After a few heartfelt words of thanks and a wish for the Club to stick together after the difficult recent times, Thomas returned to his seat to a second standing ovation.

As the applause died down, Club Secretary, Peter Greenwood addressed the guests with some kind words about the Chairman, who has announced his retirement from the role after five years. Peter pointed out some of the many tasks that NEVILLE DENNETT had undertaken on behalf of the Club, and thanked him for his outstanding term in office, which was commemorated with the presentation of an engraved tankard, with best wishes for him and Gill for the future.
