Corsham Girls take top prizes at Wiltshire Cricket Awards

Trophies for Lily Day and Melissa Story

Members of Corsham's Academy were well represented at The annual Wiltshire Cricket awards evening which took place on Friday 15th September at the Ceres Hall, Devizes. Awards were handed out by Katie George (pictured above with Lily Day and Melissa Story), a member of the Southern Vipers (Kia Super League).

The final and most prestigious award of the evening was for the Wiltshire Cricketer of the Year. This year's award went to Melissa Story. At under 17 level, she finished the season in the top twenty run scorers across the country in the Under 17s competitions, with 310 runs at an average of 44.29. She also took 11 wickets at an average of 13.64.

In August alone, Melissa’s stats were:
Six matches played
257 runs @ 128.5 with three fifties.
7 wickets @ 12.85 with 1 four wicket innings

What has changed for her this year? Belief……..Belief that she can perform at County level and enjoying playing the game. And batting for a long time…

In the 1st XI game against Cornwall at Chippenham, she shared a fifth wicket partnership with Lucy Farrant of 102 in a game that ended as a tie. The pair batted together again against Dorset at Calne and shared a 7th wicket partnership of 82 in a 44 run win. Melissa and Lucy shared a third large partnership in the return game, adding 77 runs for the 5th wicket in a 4 wicket win with five overs to spare.

Over 400 runs in all 1st XI and Under 17s competitions, 16 wickets, three 50 run partnerships, one 100 run partnership.

It has been a great year for Melissa Story.
