The recently revamped practice nets at Corsham Cricket Club's Station Road ground got their first use when keen under-11 player Alfie Johnson took advantage of some rare winter sunshine to practise his batting and bowling ahead of the new season. An aspiring seamer and middle-order slogger, Alfie enjoyed the improved bounce and carry of the new surface and found it a lot easier to retrieve balls that would previously have been caught under the old netting.
The refurbishment of the nets was finished in early January. The framework is now more substantial with larger diameter and thicker poles, and slightly higher than before. The netting itself is made from heavy-duty polypropylene and knotted rather than woven. Each bay has its own netting tunnel, and there are individually supported 'blinkers' on all sides.
