Corsham CC seek volunteers

At the AGM of the Wiltshire County Cricket League (WCCL) in November 2016 the League stated that with the Wiltshire Association of Cricket Officials (WACO) having insufficient members willing to make themselves available for WCCL matches, it will be the responsibility of Clubs to provide competent umpires for all matches.

In an effort to increase the number of competent umpires, WCCL has introduced a points based incentive...

Divisions 1 and 2
There will be three graduations of reward …
Teams providing a non-playing umpire trained to Level 1 or above will be awarded 3 bonus points
Teams providing a non-playing umpire with Forum* training will be awarded 2 bonus points
Teams providing a non-playing umpire will be awarded 1 bonus point.
Teams including at least two players who share umpiring duties while their team is batting with at least Forum training will be awarded 1 bonus point.

Divisions 3 to 9
Teams providing a non-playing umpire will be awarded 1 bonus point.
Teams including at least two players who share umpiring duties while their team is batting with at least Forum* training will be awarded 1 bonus point.

All umpires trained by WACO to level 1 and above together with those who attend Forum* training will be listed on the website to be shown as umpire when results are input. It will therefore be imperative that scorers accurately record the names in the scorebook.

*Wiltshire Association of Cricket Officials (on behalf of the Wiltshire County Cricket League) will be running Umpire Training Forums on the dates and at the venues listed below. Forums will be free to attend.

All teams will be expected to send a maximum of three unqualified persons (players or otherwise) to these sessions. All attendees will be given a certificate of attendance and be registered on the WCCL website. Forum training will be around three hours in length and be discussion based with qualified umpires on hand to assist and answer questions.

These forums are open to anyone who will be standing as an umpire in any match or part of a match in the Wiltshire County Cricket League during the forthcoming season.

Those who attend will receive a certificate of attendance and will have their name listed on a register of Forum Umpires.

Wiltshire County Cricket League will award ‘umpire’ bonus points in accordance with the new regulations ONLY for umpires listed on the register of Forum Umpires.

Clubs may choose which forum(s) to attend. However the number of attendees is limited to THREE per TEAM for most of the forums. The final two forums at Bath CC and Devizes CC are open to anyone (allowing a team to send additional people if required).

Each forum will run from 7.00pm to 9.30pm.

Please inform Colin Pitman (WACO) that you intend to attend a forum, preferably by email to candspitman@btinternet.com – and remember to include the name of the club and the venue at which you intend to attend!

It is obviously essential to get as many players from each of the Corsham teams on these courses to ensure that umpire bonus points are accrued. Club Secretary, Peter Greenwood, requests that Club Captains canvass their prospective players and notify Colin Pitman (WACO) of their intention to attend (e-mail: candspitman@btinternet.com), ensuring that Peter is copied in with the e-mail.
