Overindulgence in alcohol

The following message from the West of England Premier League Board (WEPL) was published in February 2017 ...

Dear Secretary

The WEPL Board, just like all the clubs, is always pleased if the atmosphere at club grounds is stimulating, happy and encouraging. This shows that cricket is a sport all families and individuals can enjoy, even if they do not actually play. Unfortunately, on occasions the experience can be adversely coloured by overindulgence in alcohol.

The WEPL Board would like to remind clubs that they and their officials are responsible for the behaviour of players and spectators at their grounds. Occasionally there have been reports that excessive use of alcohol by some participants in matches has spoilt the enjoyment of the majority.

Hopefully this kind of situation will not occur in the forthcoming season. The Board would view very seriously any incident deemed to be fuelled by drink, and would take disciplinary action. Finally, I will stress again the responsibility of clubs and their officials to promote a responsible drinking culture.

Kind regards to all clubs and best wishes for the 2017 season.

Chris Norton
Chairman WEPL

The General Committee of Corsham Cricket Club supports this statement from WEPL and expects all its members to respect its sentiments.
