Wicket-keeper/batsman Charley Reed impresses Somerset Academy Director Steve Snell

Corsham wicket-keeper/batsman Charley Reed, concludes Steve Snell’s new recruits for the Somerset Academy for the coming winter programme.

Charley, who is an opening batsman, attends King Edward’s School in Bath has had a very successful season with the bat and gloves for the Somerset Under 14’s.

The Wiltshire youngster started off playing for his home county but for the last couple of seasons has played for Somerset where he has been part of the Emerging Player Programme working with Greg Kennis and Paul Tweddle.

Charley said:”It really is a great privilege to join the Somerset Academy after two years on the EPP. It has been great getting the chance to spend time in the same environment and using the same facilities as the professionals and all of the opportunities that have come with that.”

Talking about his season at school he said: “I have opened the batting for the First XI at King Edward’s where I have been working with Greg Brown.”

Looking ahead Charley said: “I want to work as hard as I can through the winter to develop my skills and then hopefully push for a place in the Second XI next season. Then, in years to come playing for Somerset is my ambition.”

What was the highlight of Charley’s 2015 season? “Scoring a century for Somerset for the Under 15s against Cambridgeshire at the Oundle School Festival,” he said. “I batted all the way through which was a great experience for me.”

Academy Director Steve Snell said: “Charley has scored heavily, whilst demonstrating great pride and a high skill level in his work behind the stumps. He has been exposed to First XI cricket with Corsham CC where he has opened the innings and seems unfazed by every challenge that has been levelled at him so far.

Steve added: “Charley will certainly be one to watch for Somerset fans in the coming years.”
