On May 30, Swindon Cricket Club will play host to the T20 double header with Wiltshire’s Women’s and Men’s First XI take on their respective Glamorgan sides.
The NCCA Showcase matches have been going since 2021 and allow National Counties players to pit their wits against the best players in the country as Glamorgan shape up for the start of the T20 Blast season.
This year will also see the introduction of the women’s game being part of the day, with Glamorgan and Wiltshire having struck up a partnership last year to aid the development of both teams, as both teams look to prepare for their participation in the new domestic structure of women’s cricket.
Entrance for both matches will be free at Swindon Cricket Club on County Road, with the women’s game starting at 1 pm and the men’s game afterwards at 5 pm.
Last year was a rare opportunity for Wiltshire to play a first-class county in Wiltshire, and they selected Swindon to host the match, and after the success of it, chose to return again this month.
Daniel Harris, Chair of Swindon Cricket Club, said he was hugely pleased to have been selected to host the match again, as it demonstrated the strong development of the club and their ability to host big matches.
He said: "I think that it is a really nice reflection on the club, where we sit, the investment that we have made in facilities, and our ability to host these fixtures that they have come back to us again".
"It is just great to be bringing that type of cricket back to the area and to be seen for free by people in Swindon and the surrounding areas".
"We are a little bit isolated from a major county in Wiltshire, so to have one playing on our doorstep is a really good thing, and we hope that people take the opportunity to come and enjoy the game".
"It was brilliant last year, it couldn’t have gone any better, and it will be slightly different this year with it being T20, but we had amazing feedback from those who came".
"We had 600 people through the gate that day, with some nice food, good company, and good weather, so we will be hoping for more of the same this year.”
